When people hear IBEA for the first time, the question that always comes to mind is “does IBEA stand for anything?” To answer the question, we must go back to the beginning where it all started. When we first started IBEA, we were young college students (techies, hustlers, designers) with a burning desire to use our expertise/skills to help the people in our community and those around world. We strongly believed each of us had the power to change the world, and that was our calling.
In those early days we would meet at our campus library and discuss ideas to further advance our communities with our capabilities.
In reality, our early meetings we’re informal with little guidance, we didn’t know what we were doing, but we did know why we were doing it. This helped us continue working with IBEA over the course of the years. After three years from the founding of IBEA, we’ve been able to touch more than 1000’s lives (ranging from students, people who are homeless, children at our local hospitals, and those living in poverty.)
The name IBEA came from a simple equation [Ideas (+) Big = IBEA]. Everytime people have a big idea, we like to say that’s an IBEA. The motto we created back then was “Innovation with a Global Purpose.” And up till this day, our members still hold this belief.
